What is there to do in Morro Jable (& vicinity)?
Morro Jable is the end for avid beachgoers. Beaches are plentiful and due to the favorable location of the resort it is warmer than elsewhere on Fuerteventura. Are you considering a Morro Jable holiday? Then it is good to know that it is often mentioned in the same breath as the neighboring seaside resort of Jandia . The places flow seamlessly into each other and many tourists who stay in Jandia come to Morro Jable in the evening to have a nice bite to eat.
Morro Jable center
The historic center of Morro Jable is not by the sea, but a bit inland on a hill behind rows of hotels, restaurants and shopping streets. Wandering through the old center you get a good impression of how things used to be in the relatively small Morro Jable. Yet things have changed here due to the arrival of tourism, although the range of shops here forms an interesting mix for locals and holidaymakers . Morro Jable ‘old town’ is also the right place for more authentic restaurants and local specialties.

The tourist center of Morro Jable is located around the promenade and beaches of Morro Jable. It is especially cozy here in the evening when the lamps are switched on on the terraces and people are strolling along the boulevard. By the way, don’t be surprised if you occasionally encounter a squirrel , these live in large numbers on Fuerteventura.
Morro Jable beaches
The beaches of Morro Jable are the main reason to come to Fuerteventura’s second holiday resort. The most famous beach in Morro Jable and the surrounding area is Playa del Matorral . The golden yellow beach stretches over a length of four kilometres and is surrounded by low-rise hotels and apartment complexes. For swimmers and water sports enthusiasts alike, the Blue Flag beach is a paradise; it is clean, the water is crystal clear and there are plenty of facilities (including sunbed rental, toilet blocks and restaurants).

- The lighthouse of Morro Jable (also called Faro de Matorral ) divides the beach into several parts. The part south of the lighthouse is mainly visited by families. The section to the north is more extensive; there is less swimming and nudism is allowed in certain areas.
- Finally, there is a well-known surf spot at the lighthouse itself. When the wind and current are right, surfers flock to Morro Jable to conquer the Red Cross wave.
Morro Jable sights & tips what to do
Most tourists come to Morro Jable for a beach holiday. However, that does not mean that there is nothing to do in and around Morro Jable, on the contrary! These are the best things to see and do in the south of Fuerteventura.
Faro de Matorral
Faro de Matorral – also called Faro de Morro Jable – is a lighthouse on Playa del Matorral and is located at the southernmost point of Fuerteventura. You can walk to the lighthouse via the beach or take the footbridge from the boardwalk. Along the way you can encounter wild donkeys as well as spot squirrels. Next to the lighthouse is a café where you can drink a cup of coffee or get something soft.

Eating fresh fish in the harbour
The port of Morro Jable, Puerto de Morro Jable is a relatively large port and fulfills three functions. On the one hand it is a marina and fishing port, on the other hand ferries from Gran Canaria moor here. It is also a good place to eat fresh fish and buy fresh fish at the Pescaderia. Do you happen to be in port when the catch is brought in? Then you can see how the fish is rinsed clean. Furthermore, many boat trips and other water-related excursions start in the port of Morro Jable.

Turtle sanctuary and nursery
What many holidaymakers do not know is that there is a care and breeding center for the Caretta Caretta in the harbor area of Morro Jable. This endangered species of turtle was almost wiped out by colonialists who hunted the Caretta Caretta from the 16th century . To allow the species to increase in numbers again, the nursery has been actively repopulating the waters around the Canary Islands for several years now. The turtle sanctuary and hatchery can be visited Monday to Friday between 10am and 1pm. You will find both baby turtles and adult specimens.

Restaurants in Morro Jable
An all inclusive holiday Morro Jable is wonderful, especially for families with children. Don’t forget to eat outside the hotel or resort, though; excellent tapas and fish restaurants can be found in the harbor and in the historic center of Morro Jable. Bar Parada is one of the most recommended addresses. The restaurant has a small menu, but is full of finger-licking Canarian dishes. The same goes for tapas restaurant La Bodega de Jandia , which serves specialties such as ropa vieja and mousse de gofio .

Shopping in Morro Jable
Feel like doing some shopping? That is also possible in Morro Jable. There are many nice boutiques and souvenir shops on the boulevard and there are also several Centro Comercial (CC) in the area, including Cosmo and Ventura . The former is also a popular place for young people to go out.
In addition, a market with stalls full of clothes, souvenirs, jewelery and bags is held on Thursdays. You also have the Mercado de Morro Jable , a local market hall that mainly sells artisanal products. Think, for example, of pottery, but also of jewelery and textiles. A nice place to score a souvenir.
Playa de Cofete
The pristine Playa de Cofete is one of the largest beaches in the Canary Islands and is located on the northwest coast of the Jandia Peninsula. The golden yellow sand seems to run endlessly and the wild ocean gives that ultimate holiday feeling.
Swimming in it is not a good idea because of the strong currents, but the view alone is worth the drive to Playa de Cofete. Rent a good car. The roads are not asphalt, but a mixture of earth and stones. Not a problem for experienced drivers, but a challenge for novice drivers.

Please note: do you come across injured turtles or turtle eggs on the beach? Then call 112 to report this. Never touch the animals, not even to help them.

Morro Jable climate & best time to visit
Morro Jable has a warm desert climate. This ensures that temperatures are pleasant all year round (20+ degrees), although it can get quite hot in the summer. This is partly because there is less wind in Morro Jable than on the rest of the island. In the summer it rarely rains, in the winter there is occasional precipitation. The best time to travel is from May to October. Then the temperatures are the highest and there is the least precipitation.
